Celebrating 150 Years of Loveland
In 2026, the City of Loveland proudly marks its 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary. Throughout the year, residents, businesses, and visitors are invited to take part in a wide variety of events and experiences that celebrate Loveland’s rich history, strong sense of community, and vibrant future.
From special city traditions to brand-new signature events, the Sesquicentennial will offer meaningful ways for everyone to connect, celebrate, and make lasting memories.
Sesquicentennial Flag
The official Sesquicentennial flag was selected through a community-wide design contest and announced at the November 25, 2025 City Council meeting. Designed by members of our community, the flag represents pride in Loveland’s past and optimism for the future. It will be prominently featured at events and locations throughout the anniversary year.
Time Capsule
Loveland recently uncovered a time capsule buried more than 100 years ago, offering a rare glimpse into the city’s early days. Although water damage limited what could be preserved, the discovery was a fascinating connection to our past. In honor of the 150th anniversary, the City plans to create a new time capsule to be sealed for future generations, with a potential location at the future Nisbet Park Amphitheatre.
Commemorative Baseball Game
Celebrate Loveland’s history with a special commemorative baseball game at Phillips Park in the spring. This family-friendly event will feature guest players, commemorative jerseys, and complimentary hot dogs, popcorn, and water. A “Touch a Truck” experience will also be available, making it a fun day for all ages.
History Walking Tour
Residents and visitors can explore Loveland’s story through an interactive History Walking Tour available via a dedicated mobile app. The self-guided tour will highlight historic landmarks throughout the city and share engaging stories that bring 150 years of Loveland history to life.
Signature City Events
Loveland’s beloved annual events will take on special meaning during the Sesquicentennial year. Celebrations such as Hearts Afire, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and the Christmas Tree Lighting will incorporate anniversary-themed elements that honor the city’s history, culture, and community spirit.
Mayor’s Ball
A highlight of the fall season, the Mayor’s Ball will be a formal Sesquicentennial celebration held in September 2026. The evening will feature a full orchestra or band, Rozzi’s fireworks, and exceptional catering by Tano’s. Guests will also receive a special anniversary swag bag. Attendance is limited to 240 guests.
