Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

Show your patriotism and honor those who have sacrificed for our nation’s freedoms.


The City of Loveland’s Veterans Committee will hold the 2024 Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 27. Show your patriotism and honor those who have sacrificed so much for our nation’s freedoms.

Parade — 9 a.m.

The event will start with a parade at 9 a.m. from Loveland Elementary School, 600 Loveland Madeira Road. If you or your organization would like to be in the parade, please register online.

Parade Route:
Roads will be closed approx. 8:45-10:15 a.m. for the parade.
-Leaves from Loveland Elementary School
-Travels Loveland-Madeira Road (toward Quilter’s Studio)
-Turns right on West Loveland Avenue (toward Historic Downtown)
-Turns left on Riverside Drive to Veterans Memorial

Parking:
-No parking at Tufts Schildermeyer and Schutte’s Cleaners.
-Veterans Memorial parking lot will be handicap parking only.
-No parking along Riverside Avenue.

Ceremony — After Parade

Immediately following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Loveland Veterans Memorial, located at the intersection of West Loveland Avenue and Riverside Drive. 

Guest Speaker: Colonel J. Scott Calder

Colonel Calder graduated from Loveland High School and had a long career with the US Air Force Medical Service. He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1992 and then completed a residency in general surgery at Wright State University. After moving up the ranks from Staff General Surgeon, he received his promotion to Colonel in May 2010 and continued his professional military education.

Serving both at home and abroad, he accepted his first overseas assignment to Japan in 1997. Later, he was assigned to Germany where he was the Surgical Services Flight Commander. He served in Oman in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and later in Afghanistan and Italy. Stateside assignments included California, Florida, and Texas.

During his years of service, Colonel Calder received numerous decorations and awards:  Meritorious Service with five oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NATO Medal, as well as 13 additional decorations and eight Awards for leadership and service excellence.

Cemetery Visits — Beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The community is invited to cemetery visits:

Maineville Cemetery: 11:15 a.m.
Union Cemetery: Noon
Kerr Cemetery: 12:30 p.m.

Community Picnic — 2 p.m.

The community is invited to a picnic at the American Legion Post 256, 897 Oakland Road.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is replacing the Little Miami Scenic Trail’s pedestrian bridge near Downtown Loveland. This is the bridge just north of Nisbet Park. Construction began Oct. 1, 2023, and will last through May 2024. Click for the latest project updates: READ MORE

Loveland remains open for business during the bridge replacement! Take advantage of Loveland’s free public parking lots, restrooms, and picnic areas. Head south when you bike or paddle along the trail, and then return to Loveland for coffee, ice cream, drinks, dining, shopping, entertainment and FUN!
